Do you experience nervousness or anxiety leading up to or during dental treatment? Does visiting a dental office fill you with fear? You are not alone in your fears. For patients who experience dental anxiety, Dr. Iqbal Sayed provides oral sedation in Patchogue, New York. Oral sedation is a type of sedation dentistry. Medication is used to help anxious patients relax during dental treatments.

About an hour before your procedure, our dentist will provide you with a pill to take. The pill is typically Halcion, which is in the same drug family as Valium. The pill will make you feel drowsy, but you will remain awake. Oral sedation produces minimal to moderate sedation. The level of sedation depends on the dosage given. During minimal sedation, you are awake, but relaxed and calm. When a patient is under moderate sedation, they may slur their words and they will not remember much of the procedure. Some people under moderate sedation become drowsy enough to actually fall asleep during treatment. However, they can be easily awakened with a gentle shake.

We encourage you to contact Patchogue Dental Service PC today to learn more and to schedule a visit with our dentist. We are excited to serve you and your smile!
