Details About Handling a Soft-Tissue Injury

Posted .

If you’ve recently injured your soft tissues but you’re not exactly sure what to do about it, our Patchogue Dental Service PC team is happy to help you! Soft-tissue injuries in Patchogue, New York, can be terrifying and painful, but the best and most important thing you can do is stay calm. If you stay calm, things will turn out OK. We also ask you to try and improve the situation as much as possible. You can do so by doing the following things:

-Rinse: Swish mild saltwater solution in your mouth for about one minute. Doing so will clean the injured area and prevent infection. To make the saltwater, simply mix a half of a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water.

-Apply pressure: Apply pressure to the injured area with a piece of gauze pad or a tea bag for 15 to 20 minutes.

-Reduce swelling: It’s best to reduce swelling, control bleeding, and relieve pain by holding a cold compress to the outside of the injured area for about 5-10 minutes. Please ice the area in intervals throughout the day until the situation gets better.

-See your dentist: If the previous tips do not stop the bleeding, see your dentist right away or visit the emergency room. Continue to apply pressure to the injured area until you are treated.
